5 Reasons to Buy Beef by the Half

For the last three years we have been marketing our beef to local consumers. Many of our customers had never purchased directly from a farmer before. We understand that this process is new to many buyers and at times it seems overwhelming and a little intimidating. As your farmer, we strive to make this process as simple as possible. We are here to help you each step of the way and we want to share 5 benefits of buying beef by the half.

Convenience

Once your freezer is stocked with local beef, you won’t need to run to the store to get something for dinner. Simply thaw what you will need to make a fresh, delicious meal. Frozen beef will remain fresh in your freezer for over a year or more so you will have plenty on hand. Summer is here and so are the get togethers and busy schedules, there is no better time to stock your freezer.


Savings

We understand the sticker shock that comes with purchasing a half. We estimate the cost of a half to be about $1600, but let us help break that down for you. This seems like A LOT of money but also A LOT of beef. When you purchase a half you are purchasing about 250 lb. of beef- this includes ground beef, roasts, and steaks. But when you break it down, this ends up being about $6.60/ lb. for all cuts of beef. This is quite a savings from what it would cost you to purchase these cuts individually. If a half is too much, split one with another family or purchase a quarter instead of a half. A quarter might last a small family that eats an average amount of beef 8 months. As mentioned above, the beef will last in your freezer up to a a year or more. Imagine the savings on your weekly grocery bill when you already have beef on hand!


Flexibility

When ordering directly from the farmer you are given the flexibility to choose how your beef is processed. You are able to choose the size of roast that works best for the size of your family. Whether that is 2 lbs. or 4 lbs., you choose what works best for you. Do you even like roasts? Or would you rather grind them into ground beef? Do you like 1 inch steaks or would you rather have them an inch and a half? Would you like the brisket or flank steak?
